Women-led and Independent Voter Group Condemns Arizona AG Tom Horne For Letter and Gov. Jan Brewer For Exploiting Nogales Immigrant Children To Solicit Funds
Phoenix, AZ -- On June 12, 2014, we learned Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne sent a cease and desist letter to the federal government demanding they stop transporting Central American migrants to the Nogales Detention Center. Immigration is under the jurisdiction of the federal government and instead of wasting time and resources challenging the federal government placement of the children because of the overcrowding situation in Texas, Horne should focus his time and energy to ensure the safety of children, and and find out whether any of the sexual or physical abuse reports took place inside of Arizona. One of Horne's duties in Arizona as Attorney General is to ensure the safety of all persons in the State of Arizona within the jurisdiction of Arizona to include immigrant children. Instead, it appears Horne wants to deflect from his responsibility to ensure the safety of infants, children and mothers.  There are teenage mothers in Nogales who have reported rape.  Women voters of Arizona want these sexual/physical crimes to be investigated forthwith during this humanitarian effort.
The Supreme Court has made it clear time and time again that immigration is within the preview of the federal government under the Supremacy Clause of our United States Constitution. Therefore, when Texas runs out of detention center space, the federal government can decide where more space can be made.
The Texas Rio Grande Valley Detention Center could not house the influx of minor children and mothers properly which is why they called the Nogales Detention Center Chief to see if they could help. The Nogales Detention Chief admitted to the 120,000 sq ft. space available here and offered to lend help to the State of Texas. Currently the State of Arizona is home to the largest detention center in our Nation even though Arizona-Mexico border is approximately 378 long – only a fraction of the Texas-Mexico border of 1954 miles long. Horne does not appear to be compassionate nor is he an American team player to his own fellow Repubilican Attorney General Greg Abbott colleague in Texas' time of need even though immigrant children are reporting they are losing their childhoods in Texas Detention Centers
Horne's cease and desist letter demonstrates to Arizona women and Independent voters his unwillingness to foster team work in light of this humanitarian crisis.
In addition, we condemn Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer for exploiting minor immigrant infants, children and mothers when she uses the Nogales Detention Center crisis to fatten her federal political action committee via Jan PAC
Both Governor Jan Brewer's and Tom Horne's inhumane approach to infants, women and children will be noted come election time. We would like to remind these hypocritical "pro family" Republicans that  independent registered voters in Arizona are the largest voting bloc in our State, and we will ensure voters remember their inhumane approach to women, infants and children held in Nogales, AZ, during Texas' time of need.

Civil Rights / Clergy Delegation Tour Analysis & Proposals Regarding Nogales Detention Center Housing Minor Immigrant Children

The June 10, 2014 tour of the Nogales Detention Center (NDC) in Arizona housing over 1000 Central American undocumented minor children and mothers was disturbing for me. Though I see progress compared to a similar situation in Texas, I believe the State of Arizona handles this humanitarian crisis far better than Texas. As a Texas-born woman, I am sad to say I am ashamed of Texas federal Senators and Congressmen and women who do not provide legal immigration reform. Adequate space to house the undocumented immigrant children/mothers is part of their responsibility, too, particularly when Texas is a state with the longest stretch bordering Mexico of any State in our Union.  Currently the State of Arizona has the largest detention center in our Nation even though the Arizona-Mexico border is approximately 378 miles long (only a fraction of the Texas-Mexico border with approximately 1954 miles long).  Considering the Texas border length with Mexico, one would think they would have the largest detention facility in the country.

A Civil Rights and Clergy delegation was put together by Reverend Jarrett Maupin to review the conditions in Nogales. Reverend Maupin described the detention atmosphere as a sophisticated squalor. Though Maupin believes the Nogales BP is doing the best they can and progress is being made, progress and improvements are still needed as it relates to these children.

The tour began in the briefing room where we asked several questions to the Chief of the Detention Center and several border patrol staff. We discovered that almost all of these minor children are from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala (split almost 3-ways) with almost 0% Mexican undocumented minor children.

The ages range between 17 years all the way down to infants with mothers. The Border Patrol (BP) did tell us approximately 3 women were raped (that they know of) when they were on their way to our Nation.  They are given medical care and vaccinations immediately, but the BP needs a broader skill set to handle new problems they are not used to handling with regard to specific counseling of those who have been traumatized. FEMA has done an excellent job with providing immediate contacts, contracts and monies in order to meet evolving needs, however, the BP needs to work faster in ensuring immigrants have access to showers and clean clothing. I recommended wet wipes be provided to all immigrants – especially for menstruating women and for sponge bath purposes until showers can be utilized. The Chief of BP said wet towelettes for sponge baths were a good idea until the showers can be used after fencing construction is accomplished.

Reverend Maupin honed in on spiritual and emotional needs and suggested chaplains / spiritual advisors be provided right away for these immigrants. The Chief of BP told us they would act swiftly on the idea. The BP Chief underscored that they are used to handling adults – not minor children, and they are adjusting swiftly with the help of FEMA. The BP does not need funding because their needs are being met with FEMA funding and the Department of Homeland Security despite the smoke and mirrors Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is creating and her politicizing this humanitarian crisis. Texas operations failed to handle the crisis which is why Arizona detention centers are helping.

It is plausible to believe Arizona has the largest detention center in our Nation in light of Arizona Governor Brewer signing a restrictionist bill via SB 1070 and the anti-immigrant culture she created for our state. However, it appears Brewer's restrictionism and isolationism backfired on her when the Rio Grande Valley Detention Center was aware of more square footage space the Nogales Detention Center had to offer. Texas was inadequate and needed Arizona's square footage made available to them.

Current Conditions:

  • The Nogales Detention Center is a former warehouse facility with approximately 120,000 square feet available.

  • BP Officer Gustavo Soto stated a recreational area is being built so that these kids can have outdoor recreation.

  • Showers and toilet trailers with appropriate plumbing will be utilized as soon as a fence can be constructed and fence should be finished this week.

  • The Rio Grande Valley Detention Center in Texas called the Nogales Detention Center in Arizona seeking help to house undocumented minor children and mothers. Currently there are 150 BP agents from across the Nation helping in this humanitarian crisis to care for over 1000 minor children / family units.

  • Border patrol agents have limited toys and are playing soccer and Frisbee with minor children to make things a little better. BP leaders have children of their own and the Chief of BP is sympathetic to needs of these kids considering the broken immigration system. We know the Democratic-controlled Senate passed immigration reform approximately a year ago, while the House of Representatives led by Republicans obstruct the vote in order for legal immigration reform to take place that will help family unification attempts being made by children.

  • Children are receiving vaccinations which creates a 3 day observation period before an Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) appointment transfer is created to a more permanent area. According the the BP Chief, Nogales is merely a temporary holding station before ORR station is assigned to immigrants. We are told ORR assignments being made to the likes of military bases such as Ft. Sill, Lackland Air Force base and etc.

  • All financial resources are being met currently by FEMA and federal government, but current conditions contingent upon construction of fences and other areas to provide a more healthy environment appropriate for children and mothers.

  • The assignments and transfers will begin as early as Friday, June 13, 2014.

  • Border Patrol interacting with children and communicating with them using the Spanish language.

  • Children and mothers are currently sleeping on military bed mats with Mylar blankets and we were told bed mats are being shipped this week that will provide more comfortable sleeping arrangements.

  • There is a large medical staff on site, however, specific counseling to deal with traumatized children and mothers are needed to address more specific mental and emotional concerns.

  • Family units and children are not being sent to their native countries – only single males are sent back.

  • Immediate mental care is given after ORR transfer, but these kids need specific emotional care now to help with the trauma they experienced. We made a request to a federal Obama appointee in order to expedite this need after our tour was conducted, and we are told needs will be expedited forthwith.

  • When women are identified as rape victims during their way to the U.S., the BP puts them in urgent specific care. The INA considers those under 5 years of age as foundlings until they can be identified as to the nature of where they were born. Minor children and/or mothers do not receive legal representation in temporary Nogales detention center – only until ORR assignment transfer is conducted.

  • We believe the need for immediate representation should be made. We are working with Carlos Galindo and an Arizona AILA representative with regard to urgent legal representation, possible legal guardianship and etc.

  • Phone bank of 8 phones are utilized and help in morale department, but more are needed.

  • Chief Leonardo confessed to witnessing these kids crying, and said this affects him because he is a father and is compassionate to this crisis, however, rules prevent him from giving these kids a hug / emotional support.

  • Counselors and/or Ministers of God are imperative. We could not take photos of kids, nor could we talk to them, but a few of us did anyway. Reverend John Torres gave a message of hope to these Central American kids in Spanish and said: “Help is on the way and we are crying with you.”

  • Males and females are separated in large fenced in areas with barbed wire holding them inside the separate sleeping areas. (See Diagram)

  • At eating time, kids and mothers are lined up in long cages for a standing-only lines. The cafeteria consists of a make-shift area with wooden tables and fold up chairs that will feed 200 at a time. (See Diagram) Some of the wooden fold-up tables were shoddy and need to be replaced with table that are not porous and more sanitary-friendly ones that can be wiped more easily fostering a better food bacteria environment. Eating times take approximately 1 ½ hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner at each eating time.

  • Plenty of food is given, however, the BP Chief states they switched from flour burritos to corn tortilla burritos because corn is native to Central Americans and flour was hurting these kids' stomachs.

  • We did not see television available to these kids to help with morale and we are told by BP they are using their own televisions from offices to assign a space for entertainment.

  • So far BP agents have been contributing their own games in order to help with the morale of these kids.

Blame For Humanitarian Crisis:

I have stated factual detention current conditions of the Nogales Detention Center that is currently housing the mostly Central American undocumented immigrant children and mothers to the best of my ability. I believe the Nogales Border patrol is doing the best they can but there is room for progress from a humane standpoint for infants, children and mothers. Seeing the kids move to the corner of their chain linked fence holding area in order for them to see what we were doing there gave me a sense of what we see at a dog pound that holds lost dogs in similar chain linked areas. It was disheartening for me as a mother of two to see minor children and mothers in those conditions.

Additionally, as a mother I find it hard to believe I would encourage my children to risk their lives in the scorching heat that has already claimed thousands of immigrant lives at our southern border in the peak of summer. Primary blame is on the parents / relatives of these children's who are essentially encouraging a summer death wish. This journey makes it too easy for their children to be abused physically or sexually. This is a traumatic experience in the dangerous summer heat.

Secondly, I blame the obstructionist Tea Party Republicans, Speaker John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor who have preventing a legal immigration vote from taking place at the House of Representatives level. The Democratic-controlled Senate passed legal immigration reform almost one year ago, and obstructionism will not fix the clearly broken immigration system we all know exists today. The Republican Party used to pride itself on the protection of the family unit, however, their blocking the vote on legal immigration reform to take place clearly proves otherwise. The broken system is forcing and separating family units. President Obama has repeatedly stated to the American people he will sign a legal immigration reform bill, but it has to be approved by the House of Representatives first.

The Republican Party must understand that putting the legal immigration reform for vote will help in our National Security department. This will create an incentive and a means to identify and document those who are living in the shadows of our society. We want to keep in contributing members of society while kicking out the dangerous real criminal element. A healthy legal immigration system will also strengthen our foreign relationships and National Security with our soil neighbors in the western hemisphere that could prevent dictators from sowing discord

Republicans and Speaker Boehner must realize that preferential treatment and government handouts are given to Cuban immigrants and all immigrants are not treated fairly as it stands today. The wet-foot-dry-foot needs to be re-evaluated. Central American is considered more corrupt than Cuba and all immigrants should be treated the equally.

The GOP-led House of Representatives must not entertain “taxation without representation” ideas, and should realize the economic benefits to creating new tax payers that will ensure the continuance of Social Security benefits and the likes of caring for our aging Baby Boomers. Taking care of our elderly is taking approximately 65% of our federal tax revenues. Foresight and a proactive approach ought to be considered in order to replace our labor pool as millions and millions of our Baby Boomers retire.

Finally, in order to avoid this growing humanitarian crisis, we encourage President Barack Obama to meet with Central American government leaders. Central American government leaders must educate and inform their mothers and relatives of the long and dangerous journey in the scorching heat not fit for infants and minor children.

Extremist Tea Party Terrorist Shooter Draped Tea Party Flag over Slain Officers

June 09

As a gun owner, I support our 2nd amendment right to bear arms.  However, I will never advocate  the shooting of innocent police officers and innocent bystanders.  I believe a weapon should be used for self defense and survival. That said, the Las Vegas Tea Party Shooting exposes the Republican Party's gross problem that continues to grow within their ranks.  The GOP have enabled tea party extremists.  Tea Party politicians have made it a point to obstruct their fellow colleagues who want to solve tough problems in a bipartisanship fashion.

The tea party is responsible for government shutdowns, violence, bigotry and other forms of hate speech. As a former NRA member, I trashed my NRA membership vowing to never pay that organization again when they allowed their spokespersons to encourage killing of fellow Americans and innocent human beings.   At a 2012 NRA meeting, Nugent advised Romney supporters to “chop off” the heads of Democrats, and he has previously threatened to kill both Hillary Clinton and President Obama

These killers and domestic terrorists went beyond that line when they killed innocent police officers and draped a tea party flag over their bodies

The Chilling Anti-Government, Cliven Bundy-Loving Facebook Posts of the Alleged Las Vegas Shooters

Jerad and Amanda Miller's Facebook and YouTube likes included the NRA, Rand Paul, FreedomWorks, and other right-wing champions—and videos justifying the killing of police officers.

| Mon Jun. 9, 2014 1:01 PM EDT

The suspects in Sunday's shooting spree in Las Vegas that claimed the lives of two police officers and a shopper were a young married couple who espoused extreme pro-gun and anti-government views on their Facebook pages and who had spent time at the ranch of Cliven Bundy, whose standoff with the federal government made him a cause celebre in the so-called "patriot" movement.

The suspects, who killed themselves at the scene of their shooting rampage, have been identified as Jerad and Amanda Miller.

In a chilling Facebook message published a day before the shootings, Jerad Miller declared, "The dawn of a new day. May all of our coming sacrifices be worth it."

Jerad Miller was eager to support Bundy, who was confronted by federal officials after years of refusing to pay grazing fees. On April 9, he wrote on Facebook:

I will be supporting Clive Bundy and his family from Federal Government slaughter. This is the next Waco! His ranch is under seige right now! The federal gov is stealing his cattle! Arresting his family and beating on them! We must do something. I will be doing something.

During his time on Bundy's ranch, he told a reporter: "I feel sorry for any federal agents that want to come in here and try to push us around or anything like that. I really don't want violence toward them, but if they're gonna come bring violence to us, if that's the language they want to speak, we'll learn it." Not long after the couple made their pilgrimage to Bundy's ranch, Miller noted on Facebook that he and his wife were asked to leave because of his criminal past:

I was out there but they told me and my wife to leave because I am a felon. They don't seem to understand that they are all felons now for intimidating law enforcement with deadly weapons. So don't tell you that they need people. We sold everything we had to buy supplies and quit our jobs to be there 24/7. How dare you ask for help and shun us dedicated patriots.

Jerad Miller's Facebook "likes" include the NRA, American Patriot Media Network, Support the 2nd Amendment, The Patriot Party, Rand Paul 2016, Ron Paul, the Washington Examiner, Legalize Weed, Draft Judge Andrew Napolitano, the Heritage Foundation, FreedomWorks, American Crossroads, and Allen West.

In a June 2 Facebook post—something of a manifesto—Jerad Miller indicated that he supported the arguments of the anti-government patriot movement that claims freedom and liberty in the United States are currently threatened. He wrote:

We can hope for peace. We must, however, prepare for war. We face an enemy that is not only well funded, but who believe they fight for freedom and justice. Those of us who know the truth and dare speak it, know that the enemy we face are indeed our brothers. Even though they share the same masters as we all do. They fail to recognize the chains that bind them. To stop this oppression, I fear, can only be accomplished with bloodshed. May the best men of our beloved nation stand and fight tyranny, without fear and without regret. May we stand proud as free men instead of kneeling as slaves. May we offer our children a free and just world with our blood, sweat and tears as payment. Let our wives and lovers take vengeance upon our enemies in our absence. We cannot fail in this endeavor of Liberty, if we do we risk leaving our orphaned children to the will of tyrants. We, cannot with good conscience leave this fight to our children, because the longer we wait, our enemies become better equipped and recruit more mercenaries of death, willing to do a tyrants bidding without question. I know you are fearful, as am I. We certainly stand before a great and powerful enemy. I, however would rather die fighting for freedom, than live on my knees as a slave. Let it be known to our children's children that free men stood fast before a tyrants wrath and were found victorious because we stood together. That we all cast aside our petty differences and united under the banner of Liberty and Truth. May future generations look back upon this time in history with awe and gratitude, for our courage to face tyranny, so that they could live happy and free.

A few days later, Miller shared a photo that proclaimed, "The police have never attacked a pro gun rally."

On her YouTube page, Amanda Miller liked videos called, "Shooting Cops," "Citizens Can Shoot Police," and "When Is It Okay To Shoot a Cop." She posted a video of Jerad Miller interviewing people at the Bundy ranch. Her Facebook page contains photos of a woman posing with guns and she shared a picture of the "best coffee table ever"—it was a table with a drawer full of guns.

Independent Voter Alert: Las Vegas Revolution Shooter Identified as Tea Party Right Wingers #DumpTheTea

June 09

The obstructionism we have witnessed occur in Washington D.C. hurts our Nation instead of moving us forward.  This tragic story below involving the killing of innocent police officers is another reason why women and independent key swing voters should Dump The Tea GOP come 2014 elections.  The Tea Party consists of extremists who have a record of wanting to shut down the government, obstructing the fixes of clearly broken policies and they will not work in a bipartisanship way.  According to IVN: "The current Congress has an average 9.2 percent approval rating and 84.2 percent disapproval rating. … These numbers point to a grave problem: the House of Representatives [led by the Republican Party] is utterly unrepresentative.”

Partisanship and obstructionism is ruining our Nation.  Jared Miller was an extremist and will now be considered a domestic terrorist (not a hero) who shot innocent people and law enforcement officers in an execution-style way.  Jared Miller proudly waved his "Don't Tread On Me" tea party flag.  He was unfortunately confused about the direction of our Nation with no doubt having much to do with extreme views and rhetoric from Tea Party politicians. Most Americans know the purpose of the Tea Party and the  Dumping of the Tea in Massachusetts was to revolt against "taxation without representation" -- and yet we see extreme politicians like Congressmen Steve King, Darrell Issa, Lamar Smith pervert history and are on a dangerous slippery slope with their inability to work across the aisle.

Today's politicians are the ones who are lining their own pockets with millions of dollars and are not appropriately representing the People of the United States.   So far the do-nothing Tea Party GOP have obstructed fixes to broken policies and have made it a point to stop the President of the United States at every turn.

Las Vegas ‘revolution’ shooters ID’d as right-wing conspiracy nuts with a deathwish

By Travis Gettys
Monday, June 9, 2014 11:32 EDT

A man who gunned down two police officers and a woman Sunday in Las Vegas left behind social media postings that show his concerns over Benghazi, chemtrails, gun control laws, and the government’s treatment of rancher Cliven Bundy.

Neighbors identified Jerad and Amanda Miller as the suspects who shot the officers execution-style as they ate lunch at a pizza restaurant, and then shot a woman outside a Walmart in the same plaza.

The couple’s apartment was searched Monday morning, and authorities in Lafayette, Indiana, confirmed that Las Vegas police had contacted them about the case.

Witnesses said the couple announced the shootings were the start of a revolution and draped the victims’ bodies with American Revolution-era Gadsden flags — bearing the slogan “Don’t tread on me” — that have become symbols of the Tea Party movement.

The couple exchanged gunfire with police as they pursued them into the store, but Amanda Miller apparently shot her husband to death before turning the gun on herself.  MORE>>>

President Obama gives Speaker Boehner & GOP another opportunity to fix #Immigration

May 28

The rising Independent voter believes in putting people before partisan Party politics.  That said, we agree with long term fixes with regard to fixing the broken immigration system even though the Democratic-led Senate passed immigration last year while we continue to see the Republican-led House of Representatives drag their feet and avoid putting immigration reform up for a vote.  Somos Independents are pointing out the do-nothing Republicans to our members and millennial voters.

We recognize President Obama gave prosecutorial discretion in 2011, and he expanded it again via DACA and again. The Republican Party has fought Obama each step of the way with regard to his immigration discretion moves.

Isabel Framer (Democratic voter) points out:

"I'm glad POTUS is giving Speaker Boehner and Republican House an opportunity to do the right thing for the people and the country. This is about good strategy. We can't just think with the heart. There has to be a good thought-out strategy because once POTUS implements DHS recommendations, CIR could be dead until 2016 or perhaps 2024. In addition, anything that the President implements can be reversed at any time and is why we need real (permanent) legislation."

Today the AP reported Obama's strategy for delaying the DHS deportation review:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has asked his Homeland Security chief to hold off on completing a review of U.S. deportation policies until the end of the summer, senior White House officials said Tuesday, in a move aimed at salvaging any hopes for Congress to act on immigration this year.

Obama in March directed the government to examine whether deportation practices can be made more humane, seeking to pacify frustrated immigration advocates. But that step emboldened House Republicans to argue they can't trust Obama to enforce the law, and that bypassing lawmakers through executive action would deliver a death knell to the broader immigration overhaul that Obama and Democrats are seeking.

Caught in the middle, Obama is seeking to preserve what the White House sees as a narrow window in June and July in which Congress could conceivably act before Washington's focus becomes consumed by the November midterm elections.

"The president really wants to maximize the opportunity to get a permanent solution enacted, which requires Congress," said Cecilia Munoz, the director of the White House's Domestic Policy Council.

The delay defuses an emerging split among traditional Obama allies that emerged after the president commissioned the deportation review.

Some immigration advocates and Democrats urged Obama to take immediate executive action in the face of congressional procrastination. But others insisted the focus should remain on pressuring House Republicans to act while there's still a chance - however slim - to pass a bill that could provide a path to citizenship for the 11.5 million immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

"We've got maybe a window of two, three months to get the ball rolling in the House of Representatives," Obama said earlier this month.

That window, White House officials said, has opened now that primary elections have wrapped up in many states where Republican incumbents are being challenged by tea party candidates who oppose an immigration overhaul. But a make-or-break deadline comes when lawmakers leave Washington for a monthlong August recess to focus on campaigning.

In Denver on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden made similar remarks about Republican opposition to immigration reform and reluctance to deal with legislation during campaigns.

"They've got their chance now," Biden said. "Most of the primaries are over."

Obama informed Johnson of his decision to delay the review during a White House meeting last week in which Johnson updated the president on the review's progress, a senior White House official said. Homeland Security will continue working on the review but won't release the results until the window for congressional action has closed, said the official, who wasn't authorized to comment by name and demanded anonymity.

Obama's announcement comes the same day a coalition of groups backing an immigration overhaul asked Obama to hold off in order to "give the House leadership all of the space they may need." Among the groups urging Obama to delay were the National Immigration Forum, the Service Employees International Union and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

On the congressional front, the Senate last year passed a comprehensive bill with bipartisan support that Obama says meets his criteria for what an immigration fix must include. Republicans have refused to take up that bill, saying they preferred their own piecemeal approach. But House GOP leadership has made no move to bring legislation to a vote. And last week, GOP leaders last week blocked any votes on immigration legislation - including one offered as an amendment by a Republican - in yet another ominous sign for immigration's prospects.

Johnson has offered few details about what potential policy changes he's considering or what the timeline for acting might be. But Obama has previously taken modest executive steps to ease deportation. Two years ago, he offered protection from deportation and extended work permits to some immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children. Johnson has said he's reviewing a possible expansion of that program, but he and Obama have both cautioned that the government is constrained in what it can do without Congress.

Republicans Responsible For High Summer 2014 Gasoline Prices Affecting American Vacations

May 21

We have the Republican Party to blame with their abuse of tax payer monies in the billions and rising gasoline prices during our summer vacation time affecting millions of single parent women and women voters in general. According to Money News, gas prices climbed nearly 43 cents per gallon between Feb. 7 and May 2, 2014.

On March 29 2012, Republicans voted 51 - 47 to protect oil subsidies (or oil corporate welfare handouts).  Senate Republicans blocked a Democratic measure championed by President Barack Obama to end tax breaks for the major oil companies.  These Republicans voted in support of corporate welfare for oil companies despite a WSJ poll that revealed most Americans were against oil subsidies

We are not sure why Republican Speaker John Boehner has been a staunch advocate of XL Pipeline considering drilling our own oil is causing American gasoline prices to rise. The billions of dollars Republicans give to oil companies do not drive our gasoline prices lower and our tax dollars are being wasted.

This NBC News report, as Fortune explains, the U.S. is now an exporter of refined petroleum products, but Americans aren’t getting reduced prices because the oil companies are now pricing the fuel according to European metrics:

The U.S. is now selling more petroleum products than it is buying for the first time in more than six decades. Yet Americans are paying around $4 or more for a gallon of gas, even as demand slumps to historic lows. What gives?

Americans have been told for years that if only we drilled more oil, we would see a drop in gasoline prices.

But more drilling is happening now, and prices are still going up. That’s because Wall Street has changed the formula for pricing gasoline.

Women and independent voters will be deciding the outcome of the 2014 elections.  Indeed  NPR’s Mara Liasson says unmarried women are the single most important demographic in this year’s elections, with a quarter of the entire electorate overall are single women. As marriage rates decline, the numbers of single women are growing.

According to the Gallup, "Forty-two percent of Americans, on average, identified as political independents in 2013, the highest Gallup has measured since it began conducting interviews by telephone 25 years ago. Meanwhile, Republican identification fell to 25%, the lowest over that time span. At 31%, Democratic identification is unchanged from the last four years but down from 36% in 2008."
According to the Independent Voter Network (IVN):
"The current Congress has an average 9.2 percent approval rating and 84.2 percent disapproval rating. ... These numbers point to a grave problem: the House of Representatives is utterly unrepresentative."

Vote the do-nothing GOP-led House of Representatives out of office.  Women and independent voters are fed up with oil corporate welfare handouts and rising gasoline prices Republicans protect and it's time to #DumpTheTea.

Arizona Key Swing Independent Voters Give Tom Horne A Thumbs Down For Attorney General In 2014
Phoenix, AZ -- Arizona attorney general (AG) Tom Horne is facing new accusations that he is playing fast and loose with campaign rules according to the Arizona Republic. A staffer recently quit Horne's office and is accusing the Republican AG of using his office staffers as campaign workers. Where there is smoke there is fire, and leaders of SOMOS INDEPENDENTS (a woman-led organization of key swing independent voters) cannot support Horne for attorney general in light of what appears to be constant charges related to campaign finance violations.
Independent voters are now the biggest voting bloc in Arizona, and as an independent voter organization we must pluck out extremism and corruption with regard to public officials who are paid by Arizona tax payers.  The Arizona Republican Party voters must simply ask themselves if they can afford to support candidates like Tom Horne in the Republican primary election. Indeed, the Republican Party ought to learn the lessons from the State of Ohio (a key Presidential election state) when Ohio citizens ousted extreme Tea Party candidates.
Tom Horne's extremism is embraced by other extremists who have ruined the Republican image with:
  1. Kris Kobach: Who has shown himself to be nothing more than an ambitious politician with a dangerous and radical vision of America. We believe Kobach hurts the GOP with millennial voters who identify themselves more and more as independent voters. Kobach supports restrictive voting rights.
  2. Russell Pearce: Who was ousted by a moderate Republican via Jerry Lewis. Pearce's radical agenda caused more Republicans voters to flee the Party to become independent voters.
  3. Steven Seagal: Who recently praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him “one of the great living world leaders,” even though former Soviet leader Gorbachev said Putin is more communist than he was in leading their country.
It would be a good idea for Seagal to continue to accept movie entertainment roles as a villain, rather than become a failing political opportunist.
The common denominator between the above politicians and/or entertainers is the sinking ship they are all on. Demographics, millennial voters, shifting political paradigms continue to be the measuring stick of our future. The aforementioned hurts (not helps) the GOP. The independent voters and people of Arizona are tired of the political circus and we encourage plucking out the cancers of our state – and it begins with plucking out Tom Horne for AG in 2014.
Somos Independents is a national group of key swing independent registered Independent women voters who support bipartisanship in our government that will help solve tough issues.   We are organizing the growing independent registered voter group by getting out the vote with millennial voters, and we realize college-aged students prefer registering themselves as independents rather than choosing a major political party.  We believe in putting people before Party politics.  Co-founders include a former Republican and a former Democratic voter.
