There's a saying: "If you can't beat them, join them."
And indeed that is what Karl Rove did when he discovered he could not beat Tea Party extremism. This is why Republican voters are leaving in droves over to the Independent side because Independents support moderates and centrists. For the record, Independent voters prefer to put issues before Party politics. They are tired of extremism and gridlock.
It is a well known fact, Karl Rove recognized Tea Party extremism as it darkened the GOP's doorstep when he launched attacks against a movement that was cancerous to the Republican Party -- now out of control.
So why is Karl Rove helping the Tea Party after he was against them?
Money.
It all boils down to the money, and Rove sold out.
That said, Karl Rove is making a big mistake supporting Carl Dirty DeMaio in California particularly when key swing independent voters are in support of moderates such as Scott Peters.
Here is Dirty Carl DeMaio's resume by Too Extreme For San Diego:
- February 2012 - Kicked children off a playground to stage a photo-op of an unused playground.
- January 2012 - Voted against deal to save the city $714 million in employee health care costs.
- January 2012 - Declared that he would "owe" campaign donors as mayor.
- June 2011 - Cast the lone vote against healthcare benefits for police widows.
- April 2011 - Confirmed plan to eliminate police pensions.
- December 2010 - Called $1.2 million in potential revenue "chump change" while voting to continue providing public services to private communities. Mayor Sanders pointed out $1.2 million could save a fire truck company.
- November 2010 - Cast the lone vote to continue taxpayer subsidies of lawbreakers, opposing a rule change eliminating subsidies of parking ticket fines. San Diego could have saved $3.8 million for other services without the subsidy.
- October 2010 - Cast the lone vote in support of the Dirty Energy Proposition 23, which California rejected by 23%
- September 2010 - Falsely tried to blame worker earnings for water rate increase. The director of the San Diego Public Utilities Department noted that the raises were due to a rise in wholesale water costs (“Expect another jump in water rates,” San Diego Union-Tribune, Sept. 9)
- August 2010 - Recommended corporate sponsorship of San Diego beaches. (San Diego Business Journal, “Corporate Sponsorship Proposed for Area Beaches,” August 2, 2010)
- July 2010 - Failed to gather enough valid signatures to qualify ballot measure that would outsource city jobs without ensuring that workers receive a living wage.
- June 2010 - Voted against safety improvements to railroad crossings in downtown San Diego.
- May 2010 - Cast the lone vote against condemning Arizona's SB1070 immigration law. The law sparked protests and boycotts, and continues to face numerous legal challenges, with major components receiving a court injunction. Voters recalled the bill's primary proponent from office in November 2011.
- May 2010 - Cast the lone vote in opposition to measure that would use profits from the Port to support infrastructure and capital projects in surrounding, impacted communities like Barrio Logan.
- March 2010 - Citing opposition to a provision that would help the unemployed, underemployed, and low-income find work, voted against successful effort to reform corruption at city's redevelopment corporations by allowing the Mayor to hire and fire top redevelopment executives.
- January 2010 - In first year in office, DeMaio spent $32,000 in taxpayer money on mail. That was 45 times as many mailers as all other elected officials combined.
- December 2009 - Opposed budget eliminating public safety programs, slashing city services and laying off 200 employees for not going far enough.
- November 2009 - Opposed plan to eliminate vacant city positions despite $70 million in permanent savings from the strategy.
- November 2009 - Voted against new proposed ethics rules to improve lobbyist disclosure and transparency.
- October 2009 - Cast the lone vote to maintain taxpayer subsidies for developers. Taxpayers had previously been covering approximately 14% of developer fees.
- July 2009 - Cast the lone vote against emergency fire department funding to maintain service levels. A year later, slower response times were widely blamed in the tragic death of a 2-year-old in DeMaio's district.
- May 2009 - Cast the lone vote against a fee change to better reflect the police cost of responding to false burglary alarms. Less than 1% of burglary reports are legitimate, costing millions each year.
- May 2009 - Case the lone vote against a fee change to charge casino parties for the full cost of policing.
- May 2009 - Cast the lone vote against charging homeowners who fail to respond to fire officials' warnings of brushfire dangers on their property.
- April 2009 - Opposed Grand Jury report calling on San Diego to let citizens vote on standardizing the fees for city services.
- April 2009 - Saying “Elected officials should certainly lead by example” DeMaio refused to accept a 6% pay cut to his council salary.
- December 2008 - Cast the lone vote against budget deal to maintain fire service levels and save 17 libraries and rec centers.
- November 2008 - Just before joining council, Blasted city council vote that postponed fire, library, and rec center closures.
- October 2008 - Called for 30% reduction in Ethics Commission's budget, Commission “would be unable to function" with such cuts.
- August 2008 - Fined by San Diego Ethics Commission for soliciting contributions from city employees.
- April 2006 - Penned OpEd criticizing Perkins Student Loan Program. According to the President of the Coalition of Higher Education, “his entire article is based on a faulty 2003 evaluation of which he quotes the misleading summary, apparently without reading the report."
- October 2005 - Refused City Attorney call to register as a lobbyist for his efforts to influence city policy.
- February 2005 - At Service Acquisition Reform Panel meeting, "talked about striking a balance between addressing ethics and oversight and the potential for going overboard with internal controls."
- August 2004 - Advised and promoted California Performance Review, modeled on the plan he recommended to Governor Schwarzenegger during his campaign. The eventual report wildly overstated potential savings thanks to faulty math. The plan claimed more than double its actual potential savings. The Governor dropped the plan after independent analysis discredited its proposals, and a spokesperson for the Governor dismissed DeMaio's influence.
- June 2004 - Introduced San Diego Citizens Budget Plan. Early supporters like the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, San Diego County Taxpayers Association, and Mayor Dick Murphy withdrew support citing "wrong information...and inaccurate budget totals" that challenged DeMaio's credibility.
- April 2003 - Released mock state budget with proposals such as eliminating the Coastal Conservatory and outsourcing state park rangers.
- February 2002 - DeMaio gives the San Diego City Council a good government award for running the most efficient government in California.
- 2000 - Produced memo "that generated much of President Bush's Management Agenda." Bush's agenda sought to outsource upwards of 425,000 jobs by the end of his first term.
