Hillary Clinton wise in choosing an Irish Catholic for VP material
GOP registered voters beat us Independent registered voters by about 200,000 so far this year. Democrats remain 3rd place with Independents at 2nd place and still ahead of the Democratic voting block by about 600,000 voters. I repeat, Independents are ahead of the D's by 600,000 voters. A little bit of political Chicano advice to the Democratic leadership: Stop demonizing pro life Catholic Latino/a Democrats. Keep in mind that Hillary Clinton wisely chose an Irish Catholic Dem who is pro life in his private life as VEEP material. When you get local Democratic leaders such as Aaron Marquez who is the Vice Chair of AZ Dems using the Vice Chair position to influence people against "Hispanic"pro life Catholic Democrats, the AZ DEM leadership will lose the edge with regard to the growing Catholic Chicano / Latino Democratic voters. They ought to choose the hill they wish to die on, and in my opinion the growing Catholic Latin Democratic demographic is not really a fight they will win considering the Pope Francis of Rome is #ProLife. A huge chunk of Latino Catholics do pay attention to the pro life cues the Pope makes. If the Arizona Democratic Party leadership continues to interfere in the Democratic primaries and picking favorites -- they will continue to be in 3rd place in this state.
GOP Playing 2013 Russian Roulette With Hispanic Vote Despite Past Political Lessons Learned
The GOP is playing Russian roulette with the Mexican-American / Hispanic vote again.
On April 23, 2010, the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer stated:
“Senate Bill 1070 – represents another tool for our state to use as we work to solve a crisis we did not create and the federal government has refused to fix …”
Yet, three years later it remains unfixed and Speaker Boehner is to blame.
A trip to memory lane will recall when Republican Senate Candidate Sharron Angle (pro life politician) took a very bad risk when she demonized Latinos in her infamous political advertisements that reeked of bigotry. According to Latino Decisions, Senate Candidate Sharron Angle of Nevada only received 8% of the burgeoning Hispanic vote vs. Senator Harry Reid's 90%. Despite multiple lessons and warnings given to the GOP, it appears conservative Republicans still want to demonize Latino communities. Texas Republican Rep. Lamar Smith said the bipartisan legal comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) bill is worse than we thought, when in fact, Republican President George W. Bush pushed for a more lenient reform bill. This Gang of Eight bill is not 'worse' as Rep. Smith claims, in fact, it proves how much we have compromised since the Bush years.
But the real insult to our intelligence are with those Republican leaders who want the Hispanic pro life voters to support their pro life agenda while pro life organizations support organizations that profit from throwing Mexican-American and/or Hispanics in jail. Catholic Cardinal Dolan sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner with regard to the urgency of immigration reform and it is getting ignored. He warned the GOP House of Representatives to get their act together on immigration reform and it is getting ignored. Yet come 2014, we will see the Republican Party and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus try to trick Hispanic and Women voters with regard to caring about immigration, pro life, Hispanics and women. Fixing the broken immigration system is a pro life issue when thousands of Mexicans die crossing the harsh desert to achieve the American dream. They don't build Mayflower boats to get here.
It does not help when we see some of the oldest pro life organizations affiliating themselves with American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Pro life leaders and organizations lose credibility when their fingerprints are found on organizations like ALEC who appear to embrace a culture of death, and their pro life efforts targeting Hispanic and women voters in key races will have little merit until they do away with those fingerprints.
If one is going to call themselves pro life, perhaps they ought to essentially support it from a womb to the tomb standpoint. Billions of our American tax payer dollars are being spent on detaining immigrants who get caught for working in agricultural fields, car washes, fast food restaurants and etc. We are well aware the private prison industry would take a huge hit if immigration reform passes – private prison systems who receive government subsidies where millions of our tax payer money is wasted. Millions of our taxpayer dollars are wasted because of lawsuits, and I believe we ought to reconsider private prison systems because the incentive to make more profit dollars seem to outweigh basic and humane treatment of human beings.
But these disturbing stories do not only affect immigrants – they affect American women, too. I am especially disturbed in hearing stories about women in private prisons owned by Corrections Corporation of American refusing Autumn Miller’s cries for medical attention. She says the guards gave her a menstrual pad and locked her in a cell. As a result, Miller says in a lawsuit filed in Dallas federal court, on June 14, 2012, “She looked down and watched, in horror, as she delivered baby Gracie into the toilet.” The infant lived for four days and died in her mother’s arms.
According the the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), Speaker Boehner is an alumnus. The Nation’s Hidden History of ALEC and Prison Labor reveal their role in expanding prison systems. According to their report, prison labor for the private sector was legally barred for years, to avoid unfair competition with private companies. But this has changed thanks to the ALEC, its Prison Industries Act, and a little-known federal program known as PIE (thePrison Industries Enhancement Certification Program). An In These Times investigation revealed that ALEC arranged secret meetings between Arizona’s state legislators and CCA to draft what became SB 1070, Arizona’s notorious immigration law, to keep CCA prisons flush with immigrant detainees. ALEC has proven expertly capable of devising endless ways to help private corporations benefit from the country’s massive prison population.
Lack of leadership within pro life organizations may have fueled the culture of death, and I know this because few stepped up to the plate when our 14th amendment rights were being attacked by the Republicans they endorsed via Birthright Citizenship. Informed Hispanic voters remember how Tom Tancredo (memorable anti-immigrant politician) received a a 100% rating from National Right to Life.
To conclude, Mexican American Chicano Latino voters are exactly where we need to be for 2014 an 2016. We are the key swing voters, and many of us are registered independent voters. Republicans like Sharron Angle wanted the public to believe we were all Democratic voters, thereby trying to get Anglos to believe we were a ‘lost cause’. We are not a lost cause. We’re more powerful placing ourselves in a position of leverage because we know we are the fastest rising demographic in the Nation, and we want both sides of the aisle to work harder for our vote.
Cardinal Dolan to House Republicans: “Get Your Act Together On Immigration” #CatholicVote #HispanicVote
We still have not heard a peep from Prophet Thomas Monson of the Utah Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) in support of legal immigration reform this year despite their Mormon Temple that exists within the heart of the southwest. . However, yesterday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Archbishop Timothy Dolan openly told House Republicans to “get your act together” in passing comprehensive immigration reform. See video here.
We are very glad Cardinal Dolan understands that the House GOP Representatives like Speaker Boehner is preventing legal comprehensive immigration reform from taking place this year. Rep. Nancy Pelosi told Rep. John Boehner we have enough bipartisan Republican votes to pass immigration reform. The Democratic-controlled Senate passed a bipartisan immigration reform plan months ago, and the one man preventing this from being voted on this year is Speaker Boehner.
Though Dolan raises good points on immigration, he appears equally upset with Democrats on the pro life issue, however, I believe the breakdown in the pro life message has been within the pro life leadership.

VIDEO: Woman Leader Testifies/Defends Women Against Continued Republican Bigotry
Right now Republicans are attacking a woman’s right to choose life for their babies, and the big legislative showdown was today.
Shirl Mora James is a Civil Rights and Immigration lawyer in the Midwest who has committed her life to protecting a woman’s right to choose in having their babies. Shirl is also the President of a woman-led movement via SOMOS INDEPENDENTS (formerly the National Tequila Party Movement).
The National Right to Life (NRLC) needs to take a strong stance against the Republicans like the Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman and Nebraska Senator – Charlie Janssen. The NRLC cannot expect a State Chapter to do it all and they should set a national precedent warning other Republicans across the Nation. If Republicans continue to attack women, and prenatal care to US Born-Children (protected under the 14th amendment) they will continue to be viewed as bigots.
Here is the video of Shirl Mora James who made a strong statement against Republicans in Nebraska who claim to be pro-life, but are really in support of encouraging undocumented women to receive abortions rather than to support healthy U.S. born babies.
Shirl was fierce and strong in the defense of LIFE today, and you can see her give her testimony here.
The Republican Party's Continued War on "Brown" Women Who Choose To Have Their Babies
Right now Republicans are attacking a woman’s right to choose life for their babies.
There is a big State Capitol “pro life” showdown that will take place in Nebraska. Shirl Mora James will be giving her testimony that protects our unborn U.S. citizen babies, and we will share her written testimony as soon as I receive it from her.
The Republican Party used to be known for being the party of pro life, however, several GOP lawmakers have been supporting laws that encourage women without status to get abortions instead of prenatal care.
Will the Nebraska RIGHT TO LIFE rise up to the occasion?
Will the pro life movement chastise those politicians who claim to be pro life but are hell-bent on taking away prenatal care from brown colored women?
Write them now and ask them where they stand on prenatal care for the undocumented.

If the National Right to Life Organization truly believes all babies are created equal, then where is their leadership at?
We did not see the National Right to Life, nor the Arizona Right to Life leadership when GOP lawmakers were attacking the 14th amendment in Arizona. Will we see them testify in support of prenatal care for undocumented women tomorrow? Will they stand up against Nebraska Governor Heineman and Senator Charles Janssen? Will they continue to support these GOP lawmakers who are in essence encouraging abortions?
Where is the National Right to Life’s passion for the unborn? [Keep in mind that these are the same folks who endorsed Mitt Romney who profited in the million$ from abortions.]
Does their right to life movement only apply to white babies? LB518 is Janssen’s bill in an effort to take away prenatal care from brown undocumented women.
Will our Creator see how these so-called Right to Life Organizations and their leaders have squandered their talent and donated monies in fear of GOP reprisal?
Will the good Lord create another entity who are truly pro life? Not just from a womb standpoint — but protecting life from the womb to the tomb standpoint?
Meanwhile, a fierce woman like Shirl Mora James who has compassion in her heart for the disabled, the women, the minorities and the undocumented is issuing a rally cry.
Shirl Mora James states:
Tomorrow, State Capitol SHOWDOWN, Protecting our unborn U.S. citizen children of mothers without status….be there….STAND-UP and FIGHT for the BABIES! Prenatal care must be provided to them regardless of their mother’s wealth or status! This Thursday, the 21st, we are meeting at 1:00 p.m. outside of Room 1510, please feel free to provide written testimony, 10 copies of your testimony are needed to hand out to the Committee members. We stopped Janssen and the Governor last year, we will stop them again from committing civil violence to the mothers and their unborn Innocents!
If prenatal care is voted down tomorrow, then we will take this as a sign from the universe that the pro life movement is dwindling within the Republican party. The midwest is as Republican as it gets and we look forward to seeing “life” win.
Woman-led Organization Slams Charlie Janssen for Targeting Prenatal Care and Low Income Women
Would the Nebraska Senator Charlie Janssen rather undocumented women receive abortions? Why is Janssen attacking prenatal care given both to the unborn and women who choose to keep their babies?
Make no mistake, we will be hawkish with regard to the National Right to Life and the Nebraska Right to Lifers to see how they are going to handle lawmakers who claim to be pro life but do what is in their power to eliminate prenatal care to the unborn.
Shirl Mora James, Civil Rights and Immigration Lawyer and also President of SOMOS INDEPENDENTS (formerly the National Tequila Party Movement) chimes in and states:
“Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont introduced legislation (LB518) Wednesday to repeal a state law that gives prenatal care to women in the country without status. He is attacking innocents.”

Janssen goes after prenatal care for illegal immigrants
Last session, senators voted 30-16 to override Gov. Dave Heineman’s veto of a bill (LB599) that restored funding for prenatal coverage to low-income women, many of them undocumented, who lost Medicaid coverage for prenatal care in 2010.
The override caused conflict for lawmakers who label themselves pro-life but also oppose people being in the United States illegally.
Heineman said at the time that “providing preferential treatment to illegals while increasing taxes on legal Nebraska citizens is misguided, misplaced and inappropriate.”
The override so infuriated Heineman that he cited that as a reason for campaigning before the November election against a ballot measure that would have given lawmakers a raise. The measure was rejected by voters.
