From NBC News:
House Dems Will Try to Force Immigration Vote
BY FRANK THORP V
House Democrats will file another 'discharge petition' Wednesday in an effort to force a vote on a bill to overhaul the nation's immigration system.
The move, which would need to obtain 218 signatures, is not expected to succeed (There are currently 199 Democrats in the House). House Democrats will unveil the petition at a Wednesday morning press event on the steps of the Capitol.
House Democrats have filed seven discharge petitions in the 113th Congress, all of which failed to obtain the signatures needed to force a vote on legislation. In the last 30 years, only seven discharge petitions have obtained enough signatures to force a vote.
Earlier this year, Democrats used the tactic to try to bring an extension of unemployment benefits and an increase in the federal minimum wage to the House floor. While those attempts failed, the process itself has been used as a messaging tool to highlight Republican's unwillingness to bring up bills.
In the case of Wednesday's discharge petition, Democrats are attempting to force a vote on HR 15 -- effectively the Senate-passed immigration bill with changes to the language concerning border security. That bill has three Republican co-sponsors: California Reps. David Valadao and Jeff Denham and Florida’s Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
But in the past, Republicans have not bucked their leadership and joined with Democrats to force a vote.
Becky Tallent Not Doing Much After Speaker Boehner Hires Her As Top Immigrant Aide
On November 13, 2013, Boehner stated he has no intention of ever going to conference on the Senate bill that garnered bipartisan support. But on December 3, 2013, Speaker Boehner decided to throw a bone to the media hound dogs when his office hired Becky Tallent as his top immigration aide.
So what has Becky Tallent been doing?
Nothing except for crying about President Obama. However, we have had to inform Becky Tallent that President Obama is not a King of a monarchy -- he is the President of the United States and last we checked our Nation prides itself on democracy. But Tallent is now part of the GOP machine and immigration leaders and activists have not seen one single bill introduced by Speaker Boehner's office since last year.
We are sick and tired of Becky Tallent insulting the intelligence of Hispanic Voters. Immigration Reform is being blocked by the Tea Party GOP because that is what they do best. The Tea GOP consists of a bunch of obstructionists and the growing Independent Voter block are getting disgusted with it. According to According to IVN: "The current Congress has an average 9.2 percent approval rating and 84.2 percent disapproval rating. ... These numbers point to a grave problem: the House of Representatives is utterly unrepresentative.
We have the votes now that will fix the broken immigration system that would only enhance our national and economic security. According to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, we have the legal comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) votes with 190 cosponsors on H.R.15 and 28 Republicans vowing support.
In fact, the Democratic-led Senate introduced and passed a bill over 7 months ago and the GOP-led House has done nothing.
MethodologyOn November 2-3, 2013, Basswood Research conducted a survey of likely general election voters in 20 congressional districts. These districts are widely viewed as the 20 most competitive ones currently held by Republican incumbents. The districts surveyed were: CA-10, CA-21, CO-6, FL-2, FL-10, IA-3, IL-13, IN-2, MI-1, MI-7, MI-11, MN-2, NE-2, NV-3, NY-11, NY-19, NY-23, OH-6, OH-14, PA-8. The survey was conducted by live professional interviewers by telephone. The overall sample size was 1000, with a marginof error of +/- 3.1%, at a 95% confidence interval. Each district contributed 50 interviews to the sample; as such, data in individual districts is much less reliable.
Key Findings• Voters in key Republican districts are highly dissatisfied with political leadership in Washington across-the-board.President Obama’s job approval rating is poor, with 41% approving and 58% disapproving. “Democrats in Congress” fare even worse, with 34% approving, and 63% disapproving. But it is “Republicans in Congress” who are in the worst shape in these Republican districts, with 27% approving and 70% disapproving of their job performance.• Voters in key Republican districts want action on immigration reform.Fixing the current immigration system is rated as “very important” by 70% of voters in these districts. An additional 23% rateaction on immigration reform as “somewhat important.” Only 5% rate immigration reform as either “not very important” or “not at all important.”
• Voters prefer an imperfect immigration solution to no solution. When given a choice between leaving the current immigration system the way it is, and “passing new laws that are not perfect, but do attempt to fix the serious flaws in the current system,” voters choose imperfect solutions over the status quo by a massive 77%-15% margin. That includes 67% of voters who consider themselves “very conservative,” and 72% of registered or affiliated Republicans. The major elements of the comprehensive immigration reform proposals being considered in Congress have widespread support in these key Republican districts.E-Verify: 80% support; 13% opposeDream Act: 78% support; 16% opposeEarned pathway to citizenship for undocumented: 71% support; 21% opposeIncreasing fines for employers who hire 72% support; 23% opposeUndocumented immigrants:Increasing border patrol and border fencing: 67% support; 24% opposeIncreasing high techlegal immigration: 62% support; 30% oppose
• The combination of enhanced border security and pathway to citizenship represents a consensus position. When presented with three options regarding the interconnection between border security to preventfuture illegal immigration and citizenship for those who are presently in the country and undocumented, the following responses were found:
17% oppose a pathway to citizenship under all circumstances;26% favor a pathway to citizenship even without any increase in border security;50% favor a pathway to citizenship if it also includes substantially increased border security.76% favor a pathway to citizenship, with or without enhanced border security.• The partisan composition of these 20 districts favors Republicans.By party registration/affiliation, respondents in this survey were 39% Republican, 35% Democratic, and 23% Independent. The generic party preference for Congress was +6.7 points Republican.

Latina Voters Invoke the Todd Akin Card: Reince Priebus Should Tell Speaker Boehner He Won’t Get Penny From RNC For 2013 CIR Inaction
RNC Chair underestimates matriarch role within Hispanic voting community in 2013 regarding broken immigration system and the GOP’s inaction.
The Hispanic electorate favored President Obama by a stunning 3-1 ratio in the 2012 election, crediting Republicans like Sen. John McCain for helping push the immigration bill over the Senate finish line. Reince Priebus broke his silence on immigration almost 6 months ago, and at that rate it is no wonder why we didn’t catch Osama Bin Laden under President George W. Bush’s watch.
During the key Presidential election year in 2012, Reince Priebus said Todd Akin’s was not getting a penny from the RNC, even if the race is tied. But as we approach 2014 Elections, all Reince Priebus has to do with his claim in an effort to reach the burgeoning Hispanic electorate vote is to essentially tell Speaker Boehner the same thing he said of Todd Akin. The Republican National Committee leader would simply need to nudge Boehner in the right direction and tell him he won’t get a penny from the RNC, too, for his 2013 legal comprehensive immigration reform inaction. The 2013 inaction will be fresh in the minds of Hispanic and women voters come 2014 costing Republicans seats in competitive races thereby costing them the power there.
Despite the tea party obstructionist tactics, the Tea Party-led House of Representatives have lower ratings than President Obama. In fact, American women voters will remind Americans that the Taxed Enough Already (T.E.A.) Republican Representatives simply gave themselves extended Holiday breaks on the taxpayer’s dime when they gained the House majority. The House of Representatives do not deserve extended breaks considering there is much to be done.
I repeat, immigration is a federal matter, yet the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and Ohio Speaker Boehner are preventing progress in fixing the clearly broken system that is costing taxpayers millions of dollars. We have asked the Ohio GOP, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Representatives John Boehner, David Joyce and Bill Johnson to lead and fix issues that are important to women and Hispanic voters they claim to want to reach out to, and all have expressed no urgency to fix the broken system this year.
Earlier this year the RNC Chairman Priebus spoke of the GOP going ‘big and bold‘ but what Mexican American / Hispanic and women voters see is the “Party of No” in their attempt to make a black President look like he accomplished little with their blocks paving a way for the great white hope.
God help them. Maybe someday they will finally come to their knees and realize we are all human beings with different pigment skin color.
The Republican Party's Continued War on "Brown" Women Who Choose To Have Their Babies
Right now Republicans are attacking a woman’s right to choose life for their babies.
Shirl Mora James is a Civil Rights and Immigration lawyer in the Midwest who has committed her life to protecting a woman’s right to choose in having their babies. Shirl is also the President of a woman-led movement via SOMOS INDEPENDENTS (formerly the National Tequila Party Movement).
There is a big State Capitol “pro life” showdown that will take place in Nebraska. Shirl Mora James will be giving her testimony that protects our unborn U.S. citizen babies, and we will share her written testimony as soon as I receive it from her.
The Republican Party used to be known for being the party of pro life, however, several GOP lawmakers have been supporting laws that encourage women without status to get abortions instead of prenatal care.
Will the Nebraska RIGHT TO LIFE rise up to the occasion?
Will the pro life movement chastise those politicians who claim to be pro life but are hell-bent on taking away prenatal care from brown colored women?
Write them now and ask them where they stand on prenatal care for the undocumented.

If the National Right to Life Organization truly believes all babies are created equal, then where is their leadership at?
We did not see the National Right to Life, nor the Arizona Right to Life leadership when GOP lawmakers were attacking the 14th amendment in Arizona. Will we see them testify in support of prenatal care for undocumented women tomorrow? Will they stand up against Nebraska Governor Heineman and Senator Charles Janssen? Will they continue to support these GOP lawmakers who are in essence encouraging abortions?
Where is the National Right to Life’s passion for the unborn? [Keep in mind that these are the same folks who endorsed Mitt Romney who profited in the million$ from abortions.]
Does their right to life movement only apply to white babies? LB518 is Janssen’s bill in an effort to take away prenatal care from brown undocumented women.
Will our Creator see how these so-called Right to Life Organizations and their leaders have squandered their talent and donated monies in fear of GOP reprisal?
Will the good Lord create another entity who are truly pro life? Not just from a womb standpoint — but protecting life from the womb to the tomb standpoint?
Meanwhile, a fierce woman like Shirl Mora James who has compassion in her heart for the disabled, the women, the minorities and the undocumented is issuing a rally cry.
Shirl Mora James states:
Tomorrow, State Capitol SHOWDOWN, Protecting our unborn U.S. citizen children of mothers without status….be there….STAND-UP and FIGHT for the BABIES! Prenatal care must be provided to them regardless of their mother’s wealth or status! This Thursday, the 21st, we are meeting at 1:00 p.m. outside of Room 1510, please feel free to provide written testimony, 10 copies of your testimony are needed to hand out to the Committee members. We stopped Janssen and the Governor last year, we will stop them again from committing civil violence to the mothers and their unborn Innocents!
If prenatal care is voted down tomorrow, then we will take this as a sign from the universe that the pro life movement is dwindling within the Republican party. The midwest is as Republican as it gets and we look forward to seeing “life” win.
